Students Achieve High Honors and National Recognition through Aiken High School's Cambridge International Program

The Cambridge International Program at Aiken High School continues to grow, with over 215 students currently enrolled in one or more Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) courses this school year.

“We’re proud to have nearly 20% of our student population engaged in this high-level coursework,” Alisa Hamrick, the school’s principal commented. "Our students are experiencing outstanding success in these advanced classes.”

Aiken High’s AICE graduating class of 2022 consisted of 17 students who mastered the challenge of advanced college preparation. Two of these graduates, Laura Huff and Lindsey Malyszek, were awarded the most prestigious AICE Diploma honor, earning their AICE Diploma with Distinction. Additionally, Laura Huff was the recipient of the distinguished “Top in Country” award for earning the highest score nationwide on the AS Level Biology exam.

Another group of scholars earned the AICE Diploma with Merit, a significant honor and achievement. Students earning their AICE Diploma of Merit include the following: Ellakyn Brinkley, Anne Masters Calfee, Connor Couture, Aiden Fox, Elizabeth Hurd, Brendan Judd, Michelle Kihnley, Brianna Mahoney, Emma Grace Maroni, Sophie Redd, Ellis Runnels, Luke Stringfield, James Strom Thurmond, and Amber Williams. Also earning high scores and awarded their AICE Diploma were Alea Crespo, Anajae’ Curry, Emily Cutler, Wren Hamrick, and Franklyn Howard.

Over the next two academic years, Aiken High School is adding several A and AS Level courses. A Level courses are more in depth and generally span two academic years, whereas AS Level are completed in a year. English Literature A Level, Art & Design A Level, and Thinking Skills A Level are new courses for students at Aiken High this year.

“We’re excited to add Travel & Tourism AS and A Levels to our course offerings for the 23-24 academic year,” Hamrick continued. “Doing so will make Aiken High another South Carolina Cambridge first. Not only was AHS the first Cambridge International High School in the state, adding Travel & Tourism makes us also the first South Carolina CATE Completer Pathway which includes Cambridge courses, offering career certifications and college credit for passing scores on the exam.”
