ACPSD Hosts Canned Food Drive For National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week | November 12-20

Aiken County Public Schools’ Department of Student Services will host a Canned Food Drive in recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November 12-20, 2022. Canned and dry goods donated during the week will be placed in Blessing Boxes across Aiken County the week of Thanksgiving.

The Department of Student Services has placed a collection bin at each school. Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at their school the week of November 14-18.

Student Services Workers will begin filling Blessing Boxes in the community with food on November 21. This will allow citizens in need access to donated food from the numerous Blessing Box Locations throughout the county during Thanksgiving week.

Blessing Boxes are “Take what you need; Leave what you can” based community pantries.

“Blessing Box locations can be identified by typing ‘blessing boxes near me’ in a search engine, allowing ease of access to those in need of food and those donating,” shared Vicki Miller-McCarthy, Coordinator of Social Services for the district. “We look forward to supporting this ‘neighbor helping neighbor’ effort through the collective generosity of our students, staff and families.”

For questions or more information, please contact the Student Service Worker for your local school or Miller-McCarthy at VMMccarthy@acpsd.net.
