Pope Selected As Interim Assistant Principal At Aiken High School

George Pope has been selected as an interim assistant principal at Aiken High School. District Superintendent King Laurence notified the school board of the interim assignment at their regularly scheduled meeting January 24, 2023.  

Pope’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master of Education from Cambridge College. Pope is an Aiken Lead In participant and a Certified 4.0 Evaluator.  

His career in education began in 2006 as a middle school physical education and health teacher in Hopkins, SC. Pope has since taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels while coaching track, basketball and football for various schools across Aiken County and the region.  

Since joining Aiken County in 2012, he has taught physical education and health at Schofield Middle School and North Aiken Elementary School. Prior to his recent administrative assignment, Pope completed the District’s Aspiring Principal Program. 

Pope’s duties at Aiken High School begin in February.
