District Names Brian Gibbons As Director Of Federal Programs

The District is pleased to announce experienced educator and federal programs coordinator Brian Gibbons has been named Aiken County Public School’s new Director of Federal Programs.

“I am excited to take on this expanded role leading the Department of Federal Programs for Aiken County Public Schools,” Gibbons commented, “and to have an increased positive impact on the educational experiences of students, teachers, and families while putting the needs of our students first.”

Gibbons’ appointment as director was approved during the regular meeting of the Aiken County Board of Education on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Gibbons transitioned into his new role within the Department of Federal Programs where he has faithfully served the students and families of Aiken County as an Instructional Program Support Coordinator for the past five years.

“Brian has an impeccable reputation for building working relationships based on high expectations and accountability and is committed to Aiken County School District’s mission and vision,” commented Chief Instructional Officer Dr. Amy Edwards.

Gibbons has served in varied educator capacities, beginning as a fourth-grade teacher in 2004, then as a gifted and talented teacher for third and fourth grades in 2013, and continuing to his most recent position with the school district as Instructional Program Support Coordinator for the Department of Federal Programs which he began in 2018.

Gibbons received his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Anderson University. He also has a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Learning, Instruction, and Innovation from Walden University. Gibbons teamed with the South Carolina Department of Education to provide Read to Succeed coursework for all teachers within Aiken County Public Schools and has endorsements in Read to Succeed and Gifted and Talented education.

During his five years in the Department of Federal Programs, Gibbons served in many roles including coordinator for summer programming, gifted and talented, and Title I funding. His experience with federal funding, along with his leadership involvement with district-wide professional development and student events make Gibbons an excellent fit for his new role.

“We are thrilled to have Brian and know he will continue to be an asset in his new position as the Director of Federal Programs,” Edwards continued. “I am impressed with the level of expertise he shows in collaborating with his team and the entire instructional division.”

Gibbons transitioned to his new role as Director of Federal Programs in January.
