ACPSD was awarded the Head Start/Early Head Start grant three years ago. The teacher shortage and COVID-19 impacts to our local workforce resulted in staffing challenges and created a trickle-down effect on the number of children enrolled in the Head Start/Early Head Start program and implementation of the Heart Start grant. ACPSD will relinquish operation of the Head Start/Early Head Start grant effective at the end of the current program year, June 30, 2023. 
 
As the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families Office of Head Start identifies a temporary or permanent agency to award the Head Start/Early Head Start grant for Aiken and Barnwell Counties, the District will support and collaborate with the new program contractor to prevent a disruption in services to children and families Head Start/Early Head Start. Head Start/Early Head Start staff will have the opportunity to apply to transfer to the new Head Start/Early Head Start agency or to apply for positions within the school district.
