Pope Named Assistant Principal at Aiken High School for 2023-24 School Year

George Pope has been named as an assistant principal at Aiken High School for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. He has served in the role on an interim basis since February, and the school board approved his official appointment during their regularly-scheduled meeting Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Pope’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Johnson C. Smith University (2006) and a Master of Education from Cambridge College (2011).

His career in education began in 2006 as a middle school physical education and health teacher in Hopkins, SC. Pope has since taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels while coaching track, basketball and football for various schools across Aiken County and the region.  

Since joining Aiken County in 2012, he has taught physical education and health at Schofield Middle School and North Aiken Elementary School. Prior to his administrative assignment at Aiken High School, Pope participated in Aiken Lead In and completed the District’s Aspiring Principals Program.

Pope is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the students, families and staff of Aiken High School in an Assistant Principal role for the upcoming 2023-24 school year, which officially begins in July.
