Latonia Evans Named New Principal at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School for the 2023-24 School Year

Early in her career, Latonia Evans made a commitment to educating at the middle level because of the unique characteristics specific to middle school students and her desire to make a lasting positive impact on their lives.

Aiken County Board of Education members approved Evans’ appointment as the new principal at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School for the 2023-24 school year during the school board’s June 13 regularly scheduled meeting.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to serve as Principal of Leavelle McCampbell Middle School,” she shared. “I am proud of the school's accomplishments thus far and intend to work towards sustaining excellence in student achievement and growth.”

Evans joined Aiken County Public Schools as a second-year teacher in 2006. She has taught at both Leavelle McCampbell and North Augusta Middle School, fulfilling numerous duties and responsibilities including Grade Level and Department Chair, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, and Basketball and Volleyball Coach.

After 12 years in the classroom, Evans transitioned into Administration as an assistant principal at Leavelle McCampbell where she served as Leader in Me Social Emotional Chair and Youth Development Team Coordinator. Most recently, she served as an assistant principal at Schofield Middle School, assisting with the implementation of the school’s new AVID program and working with the school community to create an environment in which all could thrive.

“I am delighted Latonia will continue her career in administration at the middle level,” shared Dr. Phyllis Gamble, Aiken County Public School District’s Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools. “I had the pleasure of working with her when she was a teacher and watching her grow as a teacher leader and assistant principal. I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new leadership position as the principal of LMMS.”

Evans was drawn to Leavelle McCampbell because of its deep-rooted history of educating generations of children and the way the Graniteville community embraces its schools.

“I am excited to see the growth in the Graniteville area,” she said. “It is a city where many families are choosing to work and live. Leavelle McCampbell along with other schools in the area serve as an extension of the city's growth.”

Evans graduated with honors from Perry High School in Perry, Georgia. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a major in Middle Grades Education (2006) along with a Master of Education with a major in Curriculum and Instruction (2012), both from Augusta State University. She received an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia Regents University in 2014.

As a mother of two boys who attend Aiken County Public Schools, watching them grow up has afforded Evans opportunities to relate to others in a multitude of ways. She is grateful to those who educate her boys, care for them, and provide them with authentic learning experiences in the District.

“Throughout my career with Aiken County Public Schools, I have had a front row seat seeing how this district grows its students, teachers, and staff to reach their full potential,” Evans commented. “My goal is to embrace and sustain a culture of learning, nurturing, service, leadership, and continuous improvement. Through the collective efforts of the Leavelle McCampbell family and partners, we will maintain the shared mission and vision of the school.”

Evans is ready to roll up her sleeves and serve along with Leavelle McCampbell families, teachers, staff, and community members this upcoming school year.

“I take my responsibility of being part of our Leavelle Families Village very seriously,” she shared. “I can truly say that Leavelle McCampbell is part of the fabric of who I am, and I am honored to serve as Principal.”

Evans will begin her duties as Leavelle McCampbell Middle School’s principal in July.

LMMS families are invited to “Meet the Principal” on Friday, July 21, 2023. Drop in from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School to meet Mrs. Evans ahead of the 2023-24 school year which begins on July 25.
