Matthew Shepler Named New Principal at Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High School

Matthew Shepler is passionate about working with students and ensuring they meet their potential and realize new possibilities for future success.

Aiken County Board of Education members approved administration’s recommendation for Shepler to serve as principal of Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High School for the 2023-24 school year during their July 18 regularly-scheduled meeting.

Shepler is thrilled for the opportunity to serve students and families at Ridge Spring-Monetta, and believes schools located in small, tight-knit communities are always bursting with potential.

“All students are capable of achieving success if given the appropriate amount of support within the academic setting,” Shepler commented as he began the 2023-24 school year as principal. “The ability to truly know each and every one of your students allows educators to provide personalized learning experiences to help them grow.”

Shepler joined Aiken County Public Schools as a Cambridge Lead Teacher at Aiken High in 2021. He most recently served as an assistant principal at South Aiken High School during the 2022-23 school year. Shepler brings a decade of middle and high school level administration experience and 17 years in education to the role and is looking forward to working closely with students, families, faculty and community members to cultivate a culture of academic excellence at Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High.

“Mr. Shepler has been a great addition to our school district,” Bert Postell, Aiken County Public School District’s Superintendent of High Schools stated. “I am confident the RSM community of teachers, students, and parents will connect well with him.”

Shepler’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Oakland University (2006) and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton (2012). He is currently working toward a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University. As a father of two children who attend Aiken County Public Schools and husband to a middle school teacher in the district, Shepler and his family are invested in their area schools and the school system as a whole.

He strives to develop a culture of collaboration where all stakeholders feel valued, empowered, and connected within the school community. “Along with a team of excellent teachers, counselors, and support staff, we are committed to working as a cohesive unit to provide the absolute best educational experiences for our students,” he added.

Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High families are invited to the school’s Open House on Thursday, August 24. The community is invited to drop by from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to meet their new principal and hear about the great things taking place already this school year.
