Ridge-Spring Monetta Bus Driver Named South Carolina Bus Driver Of The Year

LaCheryl Knox, a bus driver for Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High School, was recently named the Bus Driver of the Year by the South Carolina Association for Pupil Transportation. Knox was recognized for this honor at the Aug. 22 Aiken County Public School District’s Board of Education meeting.

Knox began driving for the school a year ago when she realized that children were waiting a long time for the bus. She was using her personal vehicle to transport children before deciding that becoming an official driver could help even more.

“I just continue to try to do the best I can to make sure that they get there so that they can get the education that they need,” Knox said.

Willie Connor, Ridge Spring and Wagener-Salley Area Transportation Supervisor, said he knew Knox was special when she was hired.

“One of the things that stood out to me was, she made the statement that if she can help or make one child happy, then her driving is not in vain,” Connor said.

According to Knox, the job involves transporting “the world’s most precious cargo.”
