Battle of the Books
What is the Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is an academic-bowl style quiz competition focusing on a list of ten preselected books. Students compete in teams consisting of up to four members.
Competition matches consist of two teams answering ten questions with opportunity to "steal" a question if the question is answered incorrectly. The answer to every question is the title of one of the ten books. Knowing the author earns the team an extra point. The questions are detail oriented and require careful reading of each of the books on the list. Teams ARE allowed to confer (talk) before one member of the team, the designated spokesperson, gives the team answer. It is up to the team to make sure at least one team member reads each book. The competition is held at the school level in March, with the school winner proceeding to the district level in April.
