May Child Nutrition Program Manager of the Month
Meet Melissa King
This month, Melissa King, Child Nutrition Program Manager at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School, celebrates her second year of serving students with the Child Nutrition Program of Aiken County Public Schools. The Northeast Ohio native began her journey in the kitchen at LBC Middle, before being met with the opportunity to lead the team at Leavelle in July of 2023. The incredible passion she has found for the job has helped her to strive for excellence in everything that she, along with her team, does for the students of Leavelle McCambpell Middle.
Melissa appreciates that every day in the kitchen is different, bringing both new challenges and opportunities. Because of that, she believes in the importance of flexibility and giving oneself grace. She fosters a positive work environment and leads by example, encouraging her team to ask for help whenever needed. From motivating her team to connecting with her students, Melissa finds joy in all the little moments that make her work meaningful.
Ebonee Maxwell, Child Nutrition Program Director, expressed her appreciation for Melissa’s dedication, saying “ (The Child Nutrition Program) is incredibly appreciative to have someone on our team who is willing to go above and beyond for students, faculty, and staff.” Ebonee went on to acknowledge that “Melissa strives to provide great quality food, customer service, and a positive workplace. She always finds ways to increase meal participation and students' experience in the lunchroom.”
Outside of her role at Leavelle McCampbell Middle, Melissa enjoys camping, reading, traveling, and visiting restaurants. She is a big fan of Chips and Queso, and always makes sure to indulge in her favorite appetizer when she sees it on a menu!
