The upcoming 2024-2025 school year will be the eighth year for the district's middle school Battle of the Books program. Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl-style competition in which teams of three to four students answer questions about books from a list of ten pre-selected titles. All ten of the books are chosen from the larger list the South Carolina Junior Book Award nominees for the current school year. The Battle of the Books list is carefully selected by librarians in our district and attempt to represent a variety of genres and writing styles to have wide student appeal. If students are interested in getting a jump start on their reading, they can head to the public library or log into their Destiny account through Clever/Classlink. Many of our school libraries offer the books in print but also as e-books or audiobooks which are accessible throughout the entire year.
